Kate DiCamillo

Kate DiCamillo is one of the most celebrated authors working in children’s literature today. DiCamillo’s books often borrow elements from her childhood in Florida with a single mother, and her writing conveys a deep understanding of the sadness and humor of growing up. She is a two-time Newbery Medal winner; the first was awarded to The Tale of Despereaux in 2004, and the second for Flora and Ulysses in 2014. Her debut book about the life-changing relationship between a lonely girl and her dog, Because of Winn-Dixie (2000), was a Newbery Honor Book. Her second book, The Tiger Rising (2001), and her 2016 novel Raymie Nightingale were both National Book Award finalists. She is also the author of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, the Mercy Watson series, and several picture books, like La La La. DiCamillo was the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature for the Library of Congress in 2014 and 2015. DiCamillo’s latest novel, Louisiana’s Way Home, is a companion to Raymie Nightingale.
