Julie Lindahl

Julie Lindahl is a Brazilian-born American author, educator, and democracy activist who lives in Sweden. In 2010 she learned that her grandparents had been in the SS in occupied Poland throughout the duration of WWII, seeking refuge in Latin America as new war crimes trials started in West Germany in 1960. In her newly released memoir, The Pendulum, Lindahl documents her journey and how it transforms her perspectives of her family and herself. Lindahl wrote the memoir with the support of The Swedish Author’s Fund (2016-17) and the Stevens Traveling Fellowship from Wellesley College (2015-16). A 2017 multimedia series featuring her story entitled Beyond Sides of History won WBUR two important US media awards. Lindahl is a contributor to WBUR's Cognoscenti. She is the author of three other books about Nordic culture and well-being and the founder of Stories for Society, a nonprofit dedicated to renewing the art of storytelling for social transformation.
