Brian Lies is an author and illustrator of books for children. Since 1989, when he illustrated his first book, he has written and/or illustrated more than two dozen books, including his New York Times bestselling bat series: Bats at the Beach, Bats at Library, Bats at the Ballgame, and Bats in the Band. Before he started his career in children’s books, he attended Brown University, where he earned his degree in British and American literature in 1985. He then attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and then began drawing op-ed illustrations for the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, the Christian Science Monitor, among others. His books have earned many awards, including a 2009 Indies Choice Book Award. His latest book is Got to Get to Bear’s, which Kirkus calls "A beautifully illustrated and gratifying story of woodland-creature comradeship and determination."
