Anika Denise

Anika Denise became a children’s book author almost by accident. Denise always liked to write, but she started her career in New York City advertising. Eventually, she changed course and began to write children’s stories. Denise’s first book, Pigs Love Potatoes, was published in 2007, illustrated by her husband, Christopher Denise. The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books called the book “enjoyably silly.” Her other books are Starring Carmen! (2017), Monster Trucks (2016), Bella and Stella Come Home (2010), and Baking Day at Grandma’s (2014), which was a 2014 Crystal Kite Award Finalist and was picked for Dolly Parton’s 2017 Imagination Library. Her latest book is Lights, Camera Carmen! She also has several books forthcoming in 2019, including Planting Stories, The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré, illustrated by Paola Escobar, and The Best Part of Middle, illustrated by Christopher Denise.
