Michelle Hoover is an award-winning author and innovative writing professor and educator. She is the head and cofounder of the Novel Incubator program at GrubStreet and has been teaching creative writing in different capacities for years. A writing professor at Boston University for over a decade, she is currently the Fannie Hurst Writer-in-Residence at Brandeis University. She was a 2014 NEA Fellow and has been a Writer-in-Residence at Bucknell University, a MacDowell Fellow, and a winner of the PEN/New England Discovery Award. She has also taught at Emerson, Bucknell University, Wellesley College, St. Olaf College, Smith College, UMass-Amherst, as well as the Cape Cod, Wesleyan, and Bread Loaf Writers Conferences. Her first novel, The Quickening (2010), was a 2010 Massachusetts Book Award “Must Read” book and was shortlisted for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize. Her second novel, Bottomland, was published in 2016 and was chosen at an All Iowa Reads pick in 2017.
