John Werner

John Werner has taken a career as an innovator in a multitude of directions. He is currently a vice president at Meta Co., an augmented reality tech company, but he started his career in education. He was a founding member of Citizen Schools, an extended-day middle-school program for lower income students. Since its origination in 1995 the program had grown to accommodate 5000 students by 2011. During his time with the organization, he held a number of titles, including managing director and chief mobilizing officer. In his later work with the MIT Media Lab, Werner was the founding managing director of the Emerging Worlds (SIG), the head of innovation of the Camera Culture Group, and a leader of ReDx (Rethinking Engineering Design Execution). He is also the founder of Ideas in Action, Inc., a nonprofit which hosts TEDxBeaconStreet.
